Wurie lost his parents during the war. He was adopted by a stranger who he now knows as his uncle, a man who has been extremely kind to him but has little means of his own to fully take care of his own children’s education let alone additional children.
Wurie was living in the Port Loko area when he heard about EducAid and joined up.
We have had terrible discipline problems with Wurie: he simply will not leave his books alone. Wurie has to be disciplined and threatened in order for him to actually take the time he needs to sleep at night. He would otherwise allow himself no time to sleep at all.
Wurie is an outstanding student. He has seized this second chance with both hands and is making maximum use of it. He attended Rolal Junior Secondary School until he sat his BECE. After which he came to Freetown for his Senior Secondary schooling. Because of his outstanding behaviour and performance, he was recruited as a junior member of staff and while in this position was identified by a friend of EducAid as a good candidate for sponsorship to university. He is now finishing his second year of Accounting. He has integrity and self discipline.
